“Hallmarks of Success” video describes how Stottler Henke leveraged
NASA SBIR contract to create innovative commercial software product

SAN MATEO, Calif., Jan. 3, 2007 – NASA has produced a video program that showcases the work Stottler Henke Associates, Inc. (www.stottlerhenke.com) has done over the past decade, building upon a NASA Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) contract to create intelligent training software and an innovative planning and scheduling software product now used in the aerospace and commercial aviation industries.

The video, part of NASA’s “Hallmarks of Success” series, traces the growth of a software development project begun by Stottler Henke in the 1990s for the Kennedy Space Center (KSC) Mission Planning Office. The result of that original contract, AMP (Automated Manifest Planner), evolved over several subsequent NASA contracts into what now is called Aurora™, an intelligent planning and scheduling system. Today Aurora is used to schedule floor space and other resources at KSC’s Space Station Processing Facility, where International Space Station components are prepared for space flight. It’s also used by a major commercial airplane manufacturer to orchestrate production of its next-generation passenger airliner. In addition, the United Space Alliance plans to use an in-flight version of Aurora on board the United States’ next-generation manned spacecraft, so astronauts can schedule their activities on the Crew Exploration Vehicle, called Orion.

Stottler Henke also has developed training systems for NASA, which gave birth to a product called Task Tutor Toolkit, a generic tutoring system shell and scenario authoring tool that lowers the cost and difficulty of creating scenario-based intelligent tutoring systems for technical training.

“We’re proud that NASA chose to highlight our successful product development and commercialization initiatives,” said Richard Stottler, president of Stottler Henke Associates. “Our long-standing relationship with NASA has been extremely productive, and demonstrates the value of public-private sector partnership in the technology sector.”

NASA’s “Hallmarks of Success” videos are stories featuring successful companies and the successful technologies developed through participation in NASA’s SBIR and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs. These stories serve as role models for other companies, as well as being prime examples of investing federal dollars in research and development that eventually is infused back into government programs and into the commercial marketplace.

Founded in 1988, Stottler Henke Associates, Inc. applies artificial intelligence and other advanced software technologies to solve problems that defy solution using traditional approaches. The company delivers intelligent software solutions for education and training, planning and scheduling, knowledge management and discovery, decision support, and software development. Stottler Henke’s clients include manufacturers, retailers, educational media companies and government agencies. In 2006, Stottler Henke was the subject of a NASA “Hallmarks of Success” video profile for its work developing and later commercializing advanced planning and training software systems. Stottler Henke received a 2004 “Brandon Hall Excellence in Learning” award for innovative technology. For the past four consecutive years, Stottler Henke was named one of the “top 100” companies making a significant impact on the military training industry by Military Training Technology magazine, and in 2005 received a Blue Ribbon recognizing it as a company that leads the industry in innovation.
