Space Network and RF Tactical Data Scheduling and Routing
DREAMS (Delay/disruption tolerant REinforcement learning and Aurora Based coMmunication System) optimizes data scheduling, routing, and satellite contacts to maximize throughput in a space communication network. The DREAMS system is integrated with NASA’s LunaNet, including flight testing.
Due to the complexity of space, communication challenges in the space network include intermittent links, high latencies, low bandwidths and heterogenous node types. All characteristics are variable with both predictable and unpredictable aspects, necessitating novel approaches integrating both traditional artificial intelligence / scheduling with reinforcement learning for link optimization.
